More power to you this Movember

Jason Waldron – Zurich Middle East

It is that time of year again … no not the holiday season yet! Movember! The questionable but purposeful facial hair this year has been hidden behind masks, but that doesn’t diminish the meaning behind the Movember moustaches, nor the people behind them. Men’s health is an important topic to pay tribute to and support. Zurich is here to make a difference, by helping them be ready for life.

Changing the Statistics

1 in 8 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime with testicular cancer being the most common cancer in men aged just 15 – 39 years old. Our 2020 customer benefits paid report reveals the average age of critical illness claimants is only 49 years, emphasizing the need for early action. We remain committed at Zurich to helping our customers empower their futures through adequate financial protection, ensuring there’s less to worry about for you and your loved ones at the time of need.

Zurich’s Movember Message

Prostate cancer is the 2nd most prominent form of cancer in men and the cause of 22% of all cancer related deaths in men. We share three simple mantras that can help us avoid – or even overcome – the effects of such critical illnesses.

1Early detection is often a lifesaver

The first step to improving these statistics is to be health-aware so you can take the necessary actions in good time. Testicular cancer strikes young. Globally testicular cancer is the most common cancer among men aged 15-39 years of age. Like all critical illnesses, we need to be vigilant and frequently checking up to ensure we catch it early and getting the right treatment.

2Prevention is better than cure

While we can’t predict the future, prevention can go a long way in averting illnesses and stress (a key cause of mental illnesses) simply by maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. Rather than feeling burdened about eating healthier or insisting on some physical activity, you can feel liberated knowing you are doing what you can to be empowered and ready for life.

3Knowledge breeds control

Part of being ready for life is being equipped with the knowledge and understand of these issues we face in order to take action towards positive change. Understanding key health risks or family history when it comes to cancer can help you take the necessary steps to stay on top of your game. We need to break down the barriers about men ‘toughening up’ and instead create an environment where it is acceptable to express emotion and talk about problems before they build up.

And then there’s the financial aspect, ensuring you can confidently tackle an illness should it still occur.
